The pretty town of Cockermouth is the birthplace of William Wordsworth. It offers the perfect base to explore the Northern Lake District and Western Fells. Within the immediate vicinity, you will find a great selection of independent restaurants, shops and pubs. There is a brewery just a few minutes’ walk away which offers tours where you can sample traditional ales. Close by you will find Bassenthwaite Lake and Derwentwater where you can sail and kayak. For bike enthusiasts, Whinlatter has some great bike tracks. The Roman fort of Deventio can be found just a mile away at Papcastle - you can walk here from the town.
