Description

Standing at the foot of Tennyson Down, this distinctive apartment’s sat within the cliffs of Freshwater Bay, benefiting views over the bay to the east and the English Channel to the south and west.

Located within the moat of Fort Redbout, a Palmerston fort constructed in 1856 as a response to the threat of possible invasion by the French under Emperor Louis Napoleon, the caponiers were built to be the barrack accommodation for 24 soldiers. with its’ iron window shutters and rifle slots, the caponiers also provided a means of ditch defence, these original features can still be found following a sympathetic renovation by the owner to this derelict building, creating wonderful holiday accommodation in keeping with its historical value. It makes for a great base for the family to explore the delights the Isle of Wight has to offer. You’ll find a good selection of water sports nearby at Freshwater Bay and will be spoiled for choice with the 57 miles of coastline to chose from when it comes to selecting your beach day out. Head further along West Wight where you will find The Needles Park, a great day out for the family.

Enter the grounds of Fort Redoubt over the bridge which crosses the moat next to where the caponier apartments are situated, access to the caponiers is via a staircase through an iron gate from the forts central parade square. At the base of the stairs is where the lower apartment is located, enter through the front door into the characterful hallway. Through the double doors to your right you will come into the open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner. There is a TV in the lounge and a fully equipped kitchen with electric oven and induction hob, microwave, fridge/freezer and dishwasher with a dining table and seating large enough to seat the whole group. Just beyond the feature archway in the hallway is where you will find all three bedrooms, a king-size with en-suite shower room and WC, a twin room and a further king-size bedroom. The bathroom with bath and shower over and WC is located at the end of the corridor.

There is allocated parking for one car in the forts central parade square.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.
