Description

A two-bedroom rural retreat, ideal for friends seeking a comfortable base to return to after days spent walking, hiking and golfing among the Scottish Highlands.

Surrounded by rolling countryside against a dramatic background of pine-covered mountains, this charming cottage enjoys a peaceful setting, yet only 2 miles from the quiet village of Ardgay where there is a general store and café, or Bonar Bridge (4.5 miles) where there are shops, pubs and eateries. There are walks straight from the door across open countryside, or pull on walking boots for a ramble through Balblair Forest (5 miles). Hike through the tall Scots pines to be rewarded with views of Carbisdale Castle and the Dornoch Firth. Several mountain bike trails lead through the forest, suitable for all abilities. A nine-hole golf course can be found at Bonar Bridge or combine wildlife spotting with a round at the stunning Tain Golf Club (17.5 miles), where otters, deer and herons may distract from play.

Approached via a quiet country lane, your rural retreat is a haven from the hustle and bustle of the modern world, surrounded by sprawling countryside and open skies. Pull through the metal farm gate and onto the gravelled driveway, step out of your car and take a moment to appreciate the tranquillity of your surroundings. With traditional pine-panelled walls in many of the rooms, your countryside cottage has a warmth and charm, no matter the weather outside. Leave your walking boots and wellies in the covered entrance porch and step through into the wood-panelled hallway with a brightly coloured rug covering the stripped floorboards and stairs rising to the first floor. Off the hallway, head through to the cosy living room where landscapes adorn the walls and table lamps light the room with their soft glow. Comfortable chairs are arranged around the open fire in its feature fireplace, inviting you to curl up and relax after a day spent outdoors. Pick up some local produce in the village to prepare in your well-appointed kitchen. Full of rustic charm and full of natural light from the dual-aspect windows overlooking the gardens, your kitchen is equipped with an electric cooker, fridge/freezer, microwave and dishwasher to make rustling up meals a pleasure. With a washing machine provided, you don't need to worry about clothes getting muddy on an outdoor adventure and there's a handy cloakroom with shower, washbasin and WC ideal for freshening up after a long walk. Enjoy your meals in the generous dining room where you can gather around the dining table and chat through the highlights of your day late into the evening. When it's time for bed, climb the stairs to the first floor where the wood-panelling continues along the charming landing on the walls and ceiling. From the landing, there are two inviting twin bedrooms, both with washbasins. The wood-panelled walls and sloping ceilings make both the bedrooms warm, restful spaces with beds dressed in colourful bedspreads and ample storage space for your belongings. Overlooking the countryside and woodland, your bathroom with bath, shower and WC is a soothing space to indulge in a long soak listening to the sounds of the wildlife calling in the distance.

Sit in your peaceful garden and enjoy a morning coffee at the picnic bench listening to the birds singing in the trees, or enjoy an evening meal alfresco watching the colours change on the distant mountains. There is open countryside to explore from your doorstep and a two-rod salmon beat can be taken with the cottage subject to availability. There is ample parking.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.
