Description

With bags of character, this six -bedroom grand period property is the perfect destination for large families or groups of friends seeking a comfortable base from which to explore the countryside and coastline of the area.

Enjoying a magical setting nestled in the grounds of a private estate, your holiday home is ideally situated to discover the many outdoor activities on offer in the area. Step out of your front door and pick up one of the three marked trails through the estate, across quaint bridges and alongside babbling brooks spotting abundant wildlife en-route. Step out on the Caledonian Canal (5.5 miles) for a towpath walk to the impressive Neptune's Staircase, keeping an eye out for the Harry Potter Express steaming along the tracks at Banavie (8 miles). Spend the day in the ‘Outdoor Capital of the UK', Fort William (8.5 miles). Take to the seas in a kayak, jump and slide your way through a gorge walk and challenge yourself by climbing Ben Nevis.

Approached via a sweeping driveway offering glimpses of your imposing white-washed country getaway, your holiday home is steeped in history and tradition. In 1745, after raising his standard at Glenfinnan in a last attempt to install the Stuarts back on the English throne, Bonnie Prince Charlie spent the night in this property. In the morning before leaving, he plucked a white rose from the gardens, attaching it to his bonnet: this became the emblem and symbol of the Jacobite cause and remains one of the leading symbols of Scotland today. Step out of your car onto the gravelled driveway in front of your holiday home that has stood for centuries and retains much of its traditional charm and character. Enter into the grand entrance hall, where the curving staircase leads to the first floor and there is plenty of room to greet your guests. Step into the warm and inviting drawing room with deep comfortable sofas, an open fire to take the chill off on cooler evenings, and a grand piano for family singalongs late into the evening. Wood panelling, traditional artwork and a feature fireplace make your formal dining room a welcoming space to sit and indulge in leisurely meals and convivial conversation. After supper, head through to the games room for a game of snooker or to choose a holiday read from the well-stocked bookcase. Cook up a storm in the contemporary kitchen, which comes equipped with an electric range oven (two ovens, five hobs and a hot plate), large fridge/freezer and microwave. A dishwasher, washing machine and dryer are also supplied for your convenience. Plan your day's activities over a hearty breakfast at the kitchen table overlooking the garden. Climb the sweeping staircase to the first-floor galleried landing where you will find the six well-appointed bedrooms, some with wonderful views across to Ben Nevis. Dressed in pretty fabrics and elegant furniture, your master bedroom is a generous room with en-suite bathroom with shower over bath and WC. Also benefitting from an en-suite bathroom with shower over bath and WC is a light and airy double bedroom with antique furniture and artwork. Another spacious double bedroom can be found with a wash basin. A spacious single bedroom overlooks the garden and has access to the adjoining shower room. Heading across to the West Wing you will find two cosy twin bedrooms dressed in crisp linens and decorated in soothing tones. These bedrooms share two bathrooms, one with shower over bath and WC.

Spend your day strolling the extensive gardens and find the perfect spot to spread out your blanket for an al fresco picnic. Lay out the croquet set on the lawn for an afternoon of garden games before enjoying a glass of your favourite tipple as the sun sets.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.
