Originally a coach-building of the traditional village hotel and situated within the centre of Blakeney on the outskirts of the ancient Forest of Dean, Arch Cottage retains local stone and wood features. The peaceful village of Blakeney is well served with a post office, local store, tasty fish & chip shop, a cafe and of course the village inn.
With quick and easy access into the forest, enjoy a picnic by the Blakeney Straits stream or take a stroll or paddle board around the scenic Mallards Pike lake. Cycle hire is available within the forest with a wide range of trails including downhill mountain bike routes. Other local attractions include Dean Forest or Perrygrove Railways, Puzzlewood, Go Ape!, the Forest Sculpture Trail, and Cyril Hart Arboretum. Step back into forest history at The Dean Heritage Centre and the Hopewell Colliery. For those wanting to explore further afield you are not far from the Wye Valley - an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty - great for rock climbing around Symonds Yat, river walks, kayaking and caving.
Step inside the cottage through the original archway leaving your outdoor gear in the useful cloakroom where you will also find plenty of hanging space for coats, hats and dog leads. Enter the welcoming lounge to find stylish furniture and traditional features - a perfect haven to relax with a glass of wine after a day’s exploring. The inviting stove offers heat and atmosphere just when you want it without the faff of gathering wood and the Smart TV is perfect for a movie night in. The kitchen is accessed from the lounge and brims with rustic charm, bespoke crafted cupboards and a contemporary dining suite where you can easily relax and keep the chef company! An open archway leads you into the garden room, a perfect retreat to hide away with a good book whilst overlooking the courtyard garden. When the day is done, climb the cottage style staircase to the first floor where you will find three welcoming bedrooms. The double room has views onto the country lane and is finished with embroidered cushions and a traditional bed spread. The largest bedroom also overlooks the lane and can be set as a super-king or as a spacious twin. The third bedroom looks onto the garden and has a large comfy single bed. The bathroom includes a separate walk-in shower as well as the usual bath and WC.
The enclosed courtyard garden is reached from the garden room through double doors. It is on several levels and comprises old railway sleepers, flagstones, brick walling and feature slate ground covering. There are different seating areas to choose from and even a cosy summerhouse to relax in when the evening gets chilly. The garden enjoys the sun from mid-morning until evening so pick your favourite spot. There is also a handy gas BBQ for outside summer dining.
There is parking for one car just outside the cottage (along the white wall) as well as a free residential car park around the corner.
Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.
