The bonnie river Tweed is also within a short walk, renowned for its excellent Salmon and Trout fishing. Cross the Tweed on the chain bridge to the picture post card town of Melrose. Melrose boasts an array of quirky shops, restaurants, friendly Inns, art galleries and the historic 12th century Melrose Abbey, Home of the world-famous rugby 7s and Borders Book festival. The immediate area is perfect for walking and biking with the Southern Upland Way, Elidon hills and Glentress Forest nearby. Visit Abbotsford, home of Sir Walter Scott, or enjoy a short train journey from Tweedbank station to the city of Edinburgh. The owner can usually offer doggy day care if you fancy a day exploring ‘Auld Reekie’.
