The Isle of Harris, located in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland, boasts a collection of stunning and remote beaches that offer a range of activities and breathtaking scenery.

The Isle of Harris is home to numerous beautiful beaches, popular for a variety of water sports including surfing, canoeing, swimming, fishing, and boating. One of the most notable beaches is Seilebost beach, situated on the south side of Luskentyre Bay, which was once voted one of the top 10 best beaches in the world. This beach features pure sands with rocky patches that slope gently into the pristine, aquamarine waters of the sea, offering fine views across the water to Taransay and Ben Luskentyre.

Seilebost beach can be accessed from the A859 and is located on a promontory of land jutting out into the sea, north of the tiny village of Seilebost. Although access to the beach from the road can be a little difficult, the reward is that visitors may have the beach almost to themselves. The eastern end of the beach gives way to grassy dunes, providing a suitable starting point for long walks. However, visitors should be aware of the possibility of quicksand in the area and avoid walking in the wet sand at low tide.

There are no facilities near Seilebost beach, but restaurants and other amenities can be found in Tarbert. The traditional crofting village of Seilebost has no facilities other than holiday cottages. A local slipway at the Sound of Taransay offers a watersports centre specialising in sailing, as well as a campsite.

The Isle of Harris has a rich history, including the Highland clearances, during which people living on the western side of the island were forced to move east, allowing cattle to be grazed in the more fertile west. Today, Highland cattle and sheep still graze in the grassy slopes.
