Leysdown Beach is a sandy beach bounded by flood defences and backed by a promenade. The beach is situated on the eastern side of the Isle of Sheppey and is a popular destination for those looking for a traditional seaside experience. The gently sloping beach is mostly sandy, with some shell and shingle, and there is plenty of shallow water available as the tide retreats.
The traditional seaside resort of Leysdown-on-Sea is situated towards the eastern end of the Isle of Sheppey on Kent's north coast. The town offers a range of facilities, including shops, cafes, and amusements. The beach is accessible via steps and ramps, which are suitable for less able visitors. The beach has won the Blue Flag award, which guarantees clean and safe bathing, but this also means that there is a dog ban in force on the main beach.
Leysdown is known for its nudist beach, which is situated around half a mile down the coast along Shellness Road. This beach is also known as Shellness and is a popular destination for naturists.
Other beaches in the area include St Mary's Bay, just south of Dymchurch, which is a popular sandy beach with wooden groynes running along the seashore. This beach is dog-friendly, but there are restrictions in place from The Fairway to the river outfall at the site of the Sands Motel.
Leysdown Beach is adjacent to the Kent Coastline Walk.
