Dating back to the 18th century, this lovely and historic cottage offers cosy accommodation for a family or couple looking to explore Richmond and the beautiful landscapes of the Yorkshire Dales.
Set in the pretty Georgian market town of Richmond on the borders of Wensleydale and Swaledale, this delightful cottage is within easy reach of the Yorkshire Dales (11.5 miles) and Nidderdale (15 miles). Richmond features an 11th-century castle, a beautiful theatre and a large cobbled market square, as well as a choice of shops, pubs and restaurants. Heading into the Dales you can visit Bolton Castle (13 miles), The Forbidden Corner (14 miles) or the ruins of Richard III's castle at Middleham (11.5 miles). You could walk to Easby Abbey (2 miles) and explore the banks of the River Swale. A little further afield are the spa town of Harrogate (24 miles) and the North York Moors (23 miles).
Built as part of Swale House in about 1750, this lovely cottage has a rich history and was used in the 19th century as a study area for boarders at the local school, including Lewis Carroll of Alice in Wonderland fame. The light and spacious lounge has oak flooring and plenty of comfortable seating. Here you can relax at the end of the day, watch a movie on the TV with Blu-ray DVD or listen to music via the Bluetooth soundbar. Four steps lead down from the lounge into the light and stylish kitchen/diner. There's a charming breakfast bar and a dining table, each ideal for two. The kitchen features Egyptian stone flooring with underfloor heating and is fully equipped with an electric fan oven, ceramic hob, fridge, freezer, dishwasher and marbled granite worktops. A couple of steps lead up from the lounge to the first bedroom. This is a cosy room with a super king-size bed, which can be made up as a twin room on request. There's also an en-suite shower room. Going upstairs via a bespoke oak and glass staircase, there's a romantic master bedroom which is full of character, with a double bed, grand circular feature window and 200-year-old exposed ceiling beams. This room also has an en-suite shower room with a powerful monsoon shower.
Stepping outside, you will find a large garden with a lawn, a small orchard and views over the River Swale. You can sit back on the garden bench or on the first of two patios and enjoy the view with a good book and a glass of wine. The second patio, accessed via a few steps, is a lovely sun-trap with garden furniture. There is also a useful open bike shed.
