Laxey is a small town situated within Laxey Bay, a few miles to the north of Douglas. The town is based around a steep river valley and has a small sandy beach to the south of the river mouth. This former fishing and mining town boasts a picturesque harbour, vintage railways, and a variety of amenities for visitors.
The beach at Laxey is a small sand and pebble beach, located to the south west of the harbour. The southern end of the beach features rocky outcrops and grassy cliffs, providing a dramatic backdrop to the shore. On clear days, it is possible to see the fells of the Lake District in the distance, across the Irish Sea. The beach is backed by a promenade, with a café, grassy area, and parking spaces available for visitors. A number of shops and pubs can also be found in the town.
The breakwater at the harbour and the rocks at the far end of the beach provide good opportunities for sea angling. Visitors can also explore the nearby nature reserves, enjoy popular walks in the area, including a long-distance coastal path which passes by the beach.
Laxey is home to a historic water wheel, reputed to be the oldest working water wheel in the world. This unique attraction is a must-visit for anyone interested in history and industrial heritage.
Laxey Beach is adjacent to the Isle of Man Coastal Path.
