Douglas Summerhill Beach is located at the northern end of Douglas Bay, in the largest town on the Isle of Man. The beach is a long, wide, sandy stretch that runs alongside the Central Promenade of the town.
The beach is situated in a wide sandy bay, with Broadway beach located in the middle of Douglas Bay. The natural harbour of Douglas Bay helped Douglas become the most important settlement on the island. The shore of the beach becomes mixed with shingle higher up towards the promenade.
The beach is backed by a long promenade, along which there are plenty of facilities such as cafes, restaurants, places to drink, and places to stay. The oldest surviving horse-drawn tramway in the UK still operates along the promenade, giving visitors an opportunity to take in the surroundings in style and comfort. A number of tourist attractions can be found near the beach, including the Manx Electric Railway Museum to the north, The Sayle Gallery along the promenade, and the Manx Museum in the town centre.
The beach is accessed down a very short flight of steps. The marina is located to the south of the beach, and Douglas Harbour, the main harbour for the island, is also nearby. Visitors can watch ships leaving and entering the port from the beach.
The beach is close to the terminus of the Manx Electric Railway, providing easy transportation links for visitors.
Douglas Summerhill Beach is adjacent to the Isle of Man Coastal Path.
