Southerness Beach is a wide, sandy beach with some rocky areas, stretching either side of Southerness Point. The beach is perfect for walking, with dogs allowed all year round, and the sands rolling on for many miles. At low tide, mud flats are exposed, as well as some interesting rockpools.
Parking can be found at Southerness Point, as well as a campsite, a hotel, public toilets, and a fish and chips restaurant. There is also a golf club nearby. The main landmark in the area is Southerness Lighthouse, which was completed in 1749, making it the second oldest lighthouse in Scotland, although it was decommissioned in 1936. During the summer months, it may be open to visitors.
Visitors can directly access the beach, and seals, porpoise, and dolphins are occasionally spotted in the Solway Firth.
