Rockcliffe Beach is situated at the southern end of the Dumfries and Galloway coastline and is part of a National Scenic Area. The beach is a popular destination for walkers, with many marked routes to choose from, and dogs are allowed on the beach year-round.
The beach itself is small and picturesque, surrounded by rocks and backing onto the village of Rockcliffe. There are parking spaces with direct access to the beach, as well as toilets and a café in the village.
Rough Island, a popular nature sanctuary, is located a few hundred meters from the beach and can be reached by a tidal causeway. However, visitors must check the tide times before visiting the island to avoid being caught out by the tide. During May and June, the island is off-limits due to nesting birds.
The cliff-top coastal scenery on the route between Rockcliffe and Sandyhills is excellent, making it a great favourite among walkers and those looking to enjoy the natural beauty of the area.
