The January 2014 storms that hit much of the west of England and Wales resulted in the shelter on the promenade in front of Marine Terrace being severely damaged (see [[3811307]]). The site was subsequently cleared (see [[4107589]]) with the shelter then being rebuilt, work on which can be seen under way here. The reason for the collapse of the shelter was that the foundation was undermined (see [[3804448]]). By March 2014, the base had been refilled and reinforced (see [[4107601]]), with a further skirt of reinforcement subsequently added, as seen here.
