The January 2014 storms that hit much of the west of England and Wales resulted in the shelter on the promenade in front of Marine Terrace being severely damaged (see []). The site was subsequently cleared (see []) with the shelter then being rebuilt, work on which can be seen under way here. The reason for the collapse of the shelter was that the foundation was undermined (see []). By March 2014, the base had been refilled and reinforced (see []), with a further skirt of reinforcement subsequently added, as seen here.
