Aberystwyth North Beach is a sheltered sand and shingle beach situated in the centre of Cardigan Bay, facing west and enclosed by rocky outcrops. The beach is approximately 750 metres in length and slopes gently towards the sea. It is a lively and accessible beach, located close to the town of Aberystwyth and its amenities.
The beach is backed by a promenade that stretches for over a mile, providing a scenic route for walkers, joggers, and rollerbladers. The promenade is lined with a range of attractions, including eateries, a paddling pool, and a Victorian-era pier. Visitors can also enjoy classic seaside activities such as donkey rides, sandcastle building, and ice cream stalls. For those looking to get out onto the water, a range of water sports are available, including kayaking, sailing, and windsurfing.
The beach is patrolled by lifeguards during the summer months (June to September), making it a safe and popular destination for families. The beach has also been recognised for its high standards, winning regular Blue Flag and Seaside Awards. Visitors can also take in scenic views of the surrounding area, including the Llyn Peninsula and Snowdonia on fine days.
There are some rules and regulations to be aware of when visiting Aberystwyth North Beach. Dogs are not allowed on the main section of the beach from May 1 to September 30, although there is a designated area between the pier and the jetty where dogs are permitted year-round.
Aberystwyth North Beach is adjacent to the Ceredigion Coast Path and the Wales Coast Path.
