The beach at Ynyslas is predominantly shingle with wooden groynes at high tide. As the tide retreats, up to 200 yards of clean sand is revealed, extending south to Borth and north to the River Dovey's estuary. The beach is part of the Ynyslas Sand Dunes, which are included in the Dyfi National Nature Reserve, a protected area that hosts a variety of rare plants and wildlife.
Ynyslas Beach lies between Cardigan Bay and the Dyfi Estuary, approximately a mile north of Borth on the coast of Ceredigion. The beach has 3 miles of sand stretching northwards to the sand dunes and the Dyfi Estuary. At low tide, a huge beach is exposed, and occasionally, the remains of a prehistoric forest can be spotted on the mudflats, with stumps of ancient trees visible.
The conditions on this beach are good for kite surfers, who can often be seen enjoying the waves. However, visitors need to be aware of the rapidly incoming tides, which can frequently catch out beachgoers. Additionally, children should not be allowed to dig tunnels in the sand on this beach, as these have in the past collapsed, with tragic consequences.
Dogs are not allowed on the beach from May 1 to September 30, and visitors are encouraged to respect this rule to ensure the beach remains clean and safe for everyone.
