Tywyn Beach is a long, west-facing stretch of sand and pebbles, spanning 7 kilometres of coastline from Tywyn town in the north to the harbour at Aberdyfi in the south. The beach is backed by sand dunes, with a promenade and wooden groynes dividing the section in front of Tywyn town.
The beach is popular with surfers due to its westerly swells, with the best waves typically found just off high tide and towards the southern end of the beach. Visitors can also enjoy good walks with spectacular views of Cardigan Bay, Snowdonia, and the Cambrian Mountains. The Wales Coastal Path passes through Tywyn, offering scenic routes and opportunities to spot dolphins and other wildlife.
Tywyn bathing water is located within the Lleyn Peninsula and the Sarnau Special Area of Conservation, with the Dyfi Site of Special Scientific Interest just to the south. This confirms the high conservation status of the area, which is home to a range of wildlife, including porpoises and bottlenose dolphins.
The beach is a popular holiday destination, with a range of facilities, including a promenade, beach cafe, children's seafront playground, and outdoor leisure park. Surfboards and kayak hire are available from the Surf Shop on Tywyn High Street. Dogs are restricted on the beach along the promenade from April to September, but are allowed on either side of the main beach all year round.
Tywyn Beach is adjacent to the Wales Coast Path.
