The beach at high tide is predominantly shingle, anchored by row upon row of wooden groynes. As the tide retreats, about 150 yards of deep clean sand is revealed, extending for over three miles towards Ynyslas. This transformation makes Borth Beach an attractive spot for visitors.
The old fishing hamlet of Borth offers a range of amenities, including an RNLI Lifeboat Station and a lifeguard presence on the beach during the peak summer season. The Ceredigion and Wales coastal paths pass close to the beach, providing visitors with a number of good walks. At the southern end of the beach lies a submerged forest, where the remains of petrified tree stumps can be found at low tide.
Local legend tells of Cantre'r Gwaelood, a lost kingdom from which church bells are believed by some to be heard to ring out in times of danger. This legend is mentioned in the Black Book of Carmarthen, the oldest surviving Welsh manuscript.
Free parking can be found around the village, with a car park at the Community Hall featuring a small children's play area. The beach has a range of accommodation options, including holiday parks, coastal cottages, bed and breakfasts, and self-catering holiday accommodation. There are also plenty of places to eat and drink in the area.
Borth Beach has been awarded the Blue Flag, recognising its high water quality and safety. The beach is safe for paddling and swimming, with lifeguards on duty during the summer season from July to September.
The Borth & Ynyslas Golf Club is located at the northern end of the beach, offering golf enthusiasts a chance to play a round. The submerged forest on Borth beach has made news headlines in recent years, with storms uncovering more of the petrified forest and tree stumps.
Borth Beach is adjacent to the Ceredigion Coast Path and the Wales Coast Path.
