Aberaeron is a delightful small town situated on the Ceredigion coast, designed in the early 1800s. The harbour is lined with brightly coloured, elegant Regency buildings and filled with small sailing craft, making it a truly picturesque spot.
Just to the north of the harbour, a rock and shingle beach stretches up the coast to Aberarth. At low tide, an area of wet sand becomes visible, offering views over Ceredigion Bay and out into the Irish Sea. The southern part of the beach is popular among experienced surfers and bodyboarders, particularly when conditions are favourable.
The town has some good art and crafts shops, seafood restaurants, and plenty of pubs. Aberaeron hosts an annual seafood festival, where top chefs can be seen cooking freshly caught produce. Visitors can also sample locally produced honey ice-cream and honey mustard. The Aberaeron Yacht Club lies next to the harbour and organises sailing regattas during the summer.
There are a choice of car parks in the town, including one immediately south of the harbour, adjacent to the yacht club and the beach kiosk. The beach is part of the Wales Coast Path, providing scenic walking routes along the coastline. The area is popular for sea fishing, with opportunities for both shore fishing and small boat sailing. Dogs are allowed on Aberaeron Beach, but restrictions may apply during the peak summer season (May to September). It's advisable to check local signage for specific regulations. Aberaeron North beach is dog friendly all year round.
Aberaeron Harbour Beach is adjacent to the Ceredigion Coast Path and the Wales Coast Path.
