The picturesque village resort of Aberporth overlooks two sandy beaches, Dolwen Beach to the west and Dyffryn Beach to the east, and is one of Ceredigion's favourite holiday destinations. The beaches are separated by a small headland and merge into one expansive sandy area at low tide. Rock pools are exposed at low tides, providing a fun and educational experience for visitors.
The sandy, sheltered beaches at Aberporth are ideal for a variety of water activities, including swimming, surfing, bodyboarding, paddleboarding, kayaking, and canoeing. Equipment rentals are available from local providers. The beach is also a great spot for searching for wildlife in the rockpools, and visitors can enjoy fishing along this part of the coast.
Aberporth is renowned for dolphin sightings, particularly bottlenose dolphins, which can often be seen from the beach or coastal paths. Other marine wildlife, such as seals and occasionally orcas, can also be spotted. The area is home to a variety of birdlife, including red kites.
There is a car park immediately above the rocks which separate the two beaches, and more parking can be found in the village. The village offers shops, places to eat, and places to stay. Lifeguards patrol the beach daily from mid-June to early September, ensuring a safe environment for all beachgoers.
Dogs are allowed on Dyffryn Beach year-round. However, there are restrictions on Dolwen Beach from May 1 to September 30, when dogs are not permitted.
Aberporth Beach is adjacent to the Ceredigion Coast Path and the Wales Coast Path.
