Mwnt Beach is owned by the National Trust and overlooks a sheltered sandy beach from the headland of Mwnt. The beach is a rural, small, sandy cove and one of the flagship bathing waters in Ceredigion. It is extremely popular with both tourists and residents alike, particularly during the summer months.
The beach is backed by high cliffs and accessed by a series of steps. A small stream issues onto the beach, but it is not thought to have any water quality issues. There is a large car park owned by the National Trust at the top of the cliff and a small caravan site nearby. The beach consists of a rectangle of fine golden sand, overlooked by the dome-shaped headland of Foel y Mwnt.
The area is home to the 14th century Church of the Holy Cross (Eglwys y Grog), a little whitewashed chapel built for passing sailors and pilgrims. The headland at Mwnt beach is a great spot for spotting dolphins, basking sharks, and porpoises, as well as a host of other wildlife. The beach is located within the Cardigan Bay Special Area of Conservation.
Visitors can take short circular cliff top walks, enjoy the remote family beach, and explore the 13th century church. The Ceredigion Heritage Coastal Path winds its way along the cliff that backs the beach, offering stunning views and opportunities to spot wildlife. While the beach is usually quiet, it can be busy with holidaymakers on hot summer days. Although there are no lifeguards on duty, the beach is safe for swimming.
Mwnt Beach is adjacent to the Ceredigion Coast Path and the Wales Coast Path.
