Patch Beach is situated in an estuary behind a bank of sand dunes and is the closest beach to the town of Cardigan (Aberteifi). The beach faces south-west into the River Teifi and is characterised by its sandy shoreline and surrounding dunes.
Due to the strong tides and winds in the area, Patch Beach is not recommended for swimming. Instead, it has gained a reputation for sailing, sea-fishing, and water sports. The beach and surrounding area are also renowned for their rich marine life, including seals, basking sharks, dolphins, and occasionally, minke whales. The nearby rocks are home to a diverse range of bird species, making it a popular spot for birdwatchers.
Nearby Poppit Sands Beach, located on the southern bank of the River Teifi estuary, offers a wide sandy beach with great views of Cardigan Island. This beach is backed by dunes teeming with wildlife and serves as a great base to explore the surrounding area. Poppit Sands is a popular spot for watersports, including windsurfing, kayaking, and surfing, and has lifeguards on duty during the summer holidays, as well as a RNLI lifeboat station.
Patch Beach is adjacent to the Ceredigion Coast Path and the Wales Coast Path.
