The beach is set back in the estuary and tucked behind an area of dunes. The tide around this part of the coast can change rapidly and swimming is not advised, so rather than a family beach, it has a reputation for sailing, sea-fishing and water sports. It is also an excellent area for observing marine life, including seals, basking sharks, dolphins and even the occasional minke whale.
Patch Beach is adjacent to the Ceredigion Coast Path and the Wales Coast Path.
