Cley Beach is a two-mile stretch of shingle beach situated approximately 4 miles north of Holt and 1 mile from Blakeney Point. The beach can be accessed by car or via a footpath that passes over the salt marshes. It is a popular starting point for walks to Blakeney Point, which is best done at low tide. Visitors can purchase tidal tables from local shops to plan their visit.
The surrounding land is owned by the Norfolk Wildlife Trust, and at busy times, there is a charge to park cars. The Cley Marshes Nature Reserve is a popular destination for birdwatchers and has a well-equipped visitor centre. The centre features a café, gift shop, and excellent views over the marshes. The building is eco-friendly, with toilets that flush using water collected from mosses on the roof and electricity generated from solar panels and a small wind turbine.
Visitors can walk on the shingle beach or on trails to the north of the beach with their dogs, but dog walking is not allowed in the nature reserve. The nearby medieval village of Cley-next-to-the-Sea is worth a visit, with its 18th-century windmill, St Margaret's church, and picturesque architecture.
Cley Beach is a quiet and unspoilt destination ideal for long coastal walks, with amazing views and abundant wildlife. The beach borders the NWT Cley Marshes Nature Reserve, making it a favourite spot for birdwatchers and nature lovers.
Cley Beach is on the North Norfolk Heritage Coast, and adjacent to the Norfolk Coast Path.
