North Hoyle, the UK's first commercial wind farm was installed off the North Wales coast. It consists of thirty 2MW Vestas turbines with a rotor diameter of 80m, on monopile foundations in about 12m water, about 8km from shore. The first of the UK's Round 1 offshore wind farms, North Hoyle covers an area of 10 square kilometres (3.9 sq mi), and is located approximately 7.5 kilometres (4.7 mi) off the coast of North Wales, between the towns of Rhyl and Prestatyn. The turbine towers stand 67m tall to the hub and the length of each blade is 39m giving an overall diameter of the rotor of 80m. The towers are spaced 350m apart on the north-south axis and 800m part on the east-west axis.
