Colwyn Bay West Promenade Beach is a long beach of sand and shingle with a promenade seafront walk featuring cafes, shops, and kiosks. The beach is situated between the towns of Colwyn Bay and Rhos-on-Sea, making it one of the quieter sections of beach in the Colwyn Bay area.
At low tide, the beach is wide and sandy, and quite flat, which often leaves puddles of water behind for younger children to enjoy. The beach is split into sections by a number of groynes. When the tide comes in, it covers nearly the entire beach. Swimming and water sports are popular pastimes in the area.
Dogs are banned on the beach from the beginning of May until the end of September. Roadside parking is plentiful along West Promenade, which backs the beach. The beach is accessed down a short flight of steps. A cycle path runs along the promenade, and a café is also available.
Behind West Promenade, a grassy incline known as Cayley Embankment offers excellent views of the beach and surrounding coastline. Birdwatching can be rewarding here, and if you're lucky, you may even catch a glimpse of the occasional dolphin or seal. Facilities such as a railway station, shops, places to eat, places to stay, and toilets can be found in the nearby town of Colwyn Bay. The town is also home to a Welsh Mountain Zoo, Dinosaur World, and Eirias park.
Colwyn Bay is a popular seaside resort with an award-winning beach featuring three miles of golden sand, suitable for sunbathing, swimming, or a leisurely walk along the promenade. The town offers a range of activities, including watersports, fishing, and coastal paths for cycling and walking. There are also separate slipways situated along the promenade for fishing, sailing, and jet skiing.
