Penmaenmawr Beach, located on the north Wales coastline, is a popular family resort that offers a long sandy beach, a recently refurbished promenade, and a range of facilities and activities.

Penmaenmawr Beach is situated 11 kilometres east of Bangor and looks out onto the Menai Straits. The beach is sandy at low tide, with stones and pebbles forming the upper bay area. The beach area extends approximately 1 kilometre, with rocks and coastal defences fringing the outer reaches.

The beach offers a range of facilities, including landscaped terraces, flower borders, and grassed areas. Visitors can enjoy a caféteria, amusement arcades, and beach chalets for hire. Children have access to an outdoor paddling pool and play area. For water sports enthusiasts, Penmaenmawr Beach offers windsurfing, sailing, and canoeing. The local sailing club provides opportunities for these activities.

The coastal water and coastal belt form the Menai Strait and Conwy Bay Special Area of Conservation, confirming the high conservation status of the area. The beach is adjacent to the Wales Coast Path.

The west end of the promenade has plenty of parking, and wheelchair access to the beach is good. It is possible to hire beach huts. However, dogs are not allowed on the main beach from 1 May to 30 September, including the foreshore and seashore, and any staircase or slope that leads to the beach. At low tide, dogs can be let off the lead for exercise on clearly marked areas of sand to either side of the beach. There is no lifeguard service at this beach.

The beach sits between the mountains and the sea, with stunning views of Llandudno’s Great Orme and the Menai Straits. Visitors can enjoy mountain and coastal walks in the surrounding area.

Penmaenmawr Beach is adjacent to the Wales Coast Path.
