Sandown Beach is one of the most popular beaches on the Isle of Wight, renowned for its long sandy stretches, safe bathing, and variety of activities. The beach is well served by refreshment kiosks along the seafront and is close to the town, making it an ideal resort to visit for all ages.
The beach offers a range of activities to suit everyone, including swimming, sea-bathing, surfing, and jet-skiing. Visitors can also enjoy traditional beach activities such as building sandcastles, hiring deckchairs, sun loungers, and windbreaks, and playing crazy golf. The esplanade offers views over the beach from various hotels, and the pier provides plenty of entertainment. The summer carnival also offers a range of activities to keep visitors occupied.
Sandown Beach is easy to reach, with the Island Line train running from Ryde Pier Head and/or Shanklin, and most parking located to the west of the pier. The beach is equipped with cafes, restaurants, toilets, and disabled facilities, and lifeguards are present from 11am to 6pm during the summer season. Dogs are not allowed on the beach between 1 May and 30 September, but are welcome outside these dates.
Sandown Beach has been awarded the Blue Flag status, which recognises its cleanliness and safety. It is currently the only beach on the Isle of Wight to hold this award.
Sandown Beach is adjacent to the Isle of Wight Coast Path.
