Westgate St Mildred's Bay is a small, quiet, sandy beach situated next to the seaside town of Westgate, within easy walking distance of Margate. The beach backs onto a promenade, and the sea wall follows the cliff formations around the bay.
The beach offers a range of facilities, including beach chalets for hire from Easter to September, a café/restaurant, and deck chairs for hire. A tidal bathing pool is located at the far end of the beach, providing safe swimming among the rock pools. Activities available include crazy golf, sailing, swimming, bathing, windsurfing, tennis courts, and a putting green.
Nearby cafes serve coffee, tea, and snacks. Toilet availability times vary according to the season, but facilities are fully open from the end of March and include disabled toilets. There is parking nearby, with disabled access to the beach. A weekend lifeguard service operates from the end of May to the start of July, with daily cover from early July to the start of September.
The beach is submerged at high tide. The area is popular with both visitors and residents, and a quaint town centre with a variety of shops is within walking distance. The World War 1 seaplane lookout is still in place and was in use up to 1916. St Mildred's Bay is a favourite family-friendly seaside spot, great for picnics, sandcastles, and rock pooling. The beach is dog-friendly between September and May but restricted during the summer months. Launching of fishing boats and sail craft is not permitted between 9 am and 6 pm during the summer months (June 1 to September 30).
Westgate St Mildreds Bay is adjacent to the Kent Coastline Walk and the Viking Coastal Trail.
