Joss Bay is a 200 metre long sandy beach that is sheltered by steep chalk cliffs and backed by a golf course. The beach is situated below the North Foreland Lighthouse and offers a wide expanse of sand for carefree play. It is a popular destination for families, with plenty of facilities close at hand, including a beach cafe, toilets, car parking, and deck-chair hire.
The bay was named after Joss Snelling, a notorious smuggler who was fined £100 for smuggling at the age of 89. Joss Bay is Kent's best known surfing beach and is home to the longest established surf school on this coast, offering surf lessons, hire, and an associated shop in nearby Broadstairs. The beach is also popular for water sports, with boards and wet suits available to hire from Joss Bay Surf School.
Located approximately halfway between Broadstairs and Margate, Joss Bay is a good starting-point for coastal walks and cycle rides. The beach is easily accessible, with ample parking and facilities for families.
Broadstairs Joss Bay is adjacent to the Kent Coastline Walk and the Viking Coastal Trail.
