Barmston Beach is a 2 km long sandy beach situated below the Barmston Beach Holiday Park. The beach is mainly used by tourists, residents, and for fishing. Its fairly remote location makes it a popular destination for families staying at the park. The beach was previously awarded a Blue Flag; however, due to coastal erosion, access down to the beach has become more difficult, and the award was withdrawn in 2010. Despite this, the beach still holds a Quality Coast award, reflecting its cleanliness and facilities.
The beach offers a range of activities and features, including:
* A gently sloping sandy beach perfect for walking, sunbathing, and relaxation
* Low clay cliffs that add to the beach's dramatic beauty, although visitors are advised to admire them from a safe distance due to potential erosion
* Remnants of World War II defenses, including old pillboxes and anti-invasion fortifications
* A habitat for sand martins, small migratory birds that nest in the soft cliff faces
* Ample space for families to play and explore
* Dog-friendly all year round
Facilities at Barmston Beach are limited due to its remote nature; however, this adds to its unspoiled charm. Visitors are advised to pack a picnic, bring essentials like sunscreen, water, and any necessary beach gear, and clean up after themselves to keep the beach enjoyable for everyone.
Barmston Beach holds a fascinating secret from the past, with remnants of World War II defenses scattered along the beach. The area is also home to sand martins, and visitors can appreciate the natural beauty and peaceful atmosphere of the beach.
