Skipsea Beach is located between Hornsea and Bridlington, and is a long, narrow sandy beach, approximately one kilometre in length, made up of sand and pebbles. The beach is backed by steep Holderness Cliffs and large caravan parks on the cliff top. To the south of the beach lies Skirlington Leisure Park, while an amusement park is situated to the north.
The beach is a rural location, ensuring that it never gets too busy, and is ideal for nature lovers and walkers. Birdwatching and fishing are popular activities here. The beach is dog friendly and offers a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Skipsea village has a range of amenities, including a pub, a service station, and a post office. Nearby Skipsea Castle is a good example of an early Norman motte and bailey fortification, with only the earthenworks and an impressive mound remaining.
The coastline at Skipsea has experienced serious erosion in recent years, with a variety of sea defences being built to combat the issue. Unfortunately, most of these defences have failed, and the erosion continues at a seemingly unstoppable rate, with the cliffs being washed away by the sea.
