The beach is situated at the top of the Wirral peninsula, facing north-westerly into the Mersey Estuary and Liverpool Bay. It has a gently sloping gradient of golden sand, which is fully exposed at low tide. On an average high tide, the sea covers the beach up to the sea wall.
Moreton lies approximately 2.5 miles west of New Brighton. At high tide, the beach is mainly shingle, but when the tide is out, a vast area of wet sand becomes exposed. The beach is patrolled by RNLI lifeguards during the summer months, and the water quality is generally good. There are also toilets, a shop, and a café close to the beach, with more extensive facilities available in nearby New Brighton.
The beach is popular with bathers, and activities such as sand-buggying and horse riding can also be enjoyed. Behind the beach, there is a sea wall with a paved pathway used by cyclists. Leasowe Common, part of The North Wirral Coastal Park, lies adjacent to the beach and is a good spot for picnics in the summer and birdwatching in the winter months.
Also located on the North Wirral Peninsula is Leasowe Beach, a wide expanse of golden sand perfect for a day out by the coast. The beach is wide and clean, with beautiful sand dunes and lots of space to explore. However, it is essential to exercise caution due to the rapid tide changes.
Leasowe Beach has RNLI lifeguards on duty from 29th June to 1st September. The beach is dog-friendly and backed by the rolling greens of two golf courses and the rugged sand dunes of the North Wirral Coastal Park. Overlooking the beach is the historic Leasowe Castle, built in the late 1500s, which now operates as a hotel. The beach is also home to the Leasowe Lighthouse, the oldest brick-built lighthouse in the UK, constructed in 1763.
