Newbiggin North Beach is a gently sloping sandy resort beach, approximately 500 metres in length, situated at the northern end of Newbiggin Bay. The beach is backed by a promenade that runs along the entire length of the bay, providing a scenic walkway for visitors to enjoy.
The beach features rocky outcrops at either end, which are ideal for rockpooling at low tide. A sea wall and promenade protect the beach from erosion, and a small fleet of traditional fishing boats still call the bay home. Visitors can also explore the nearby lifeboat station and Maritime Centre, which showcases local history.
Newbiggin-by-the-Sea has a long association with mining and fishing, and the town has undergone significant regeneration efforts in recent years. In 2007, a major sea defence system was built to protect the beach from erosion, involving the transportation of 500,000 tonnes of sand from Skegness. This project has helped to restore the beach to its former glory.
One of the beach's most notable attractions is the 'Couples Statue', a sculpture by artist Sean Henry, located on a rocky breakwater in the bay. The statue features two painted bronze figures gazing out to sea and can be viewed from the promenade with binoculars. Visitors can also enjoy birdwatching in the spring and autumn, as the promenade is a popular spot for migratory birds.
