Tenby Castle Beach is a small, sandy beach nestled between the historic town of Tenby, Tenby Castle, and St Catherine's Island. The beach is overlooked by St Catherine's Island and the castle, and at low tide, it joins up with South Beach, situated between Castle Hill and the East Cliff.
The beach offers a range of facilities, including a café, toilets, and deck chair rental. Visitors can also explore the historic fort on St Catherine's Island, which offers spectacular views of the beach, town, and surrounding coastline. The town of Tenby is a short stroll away, providing access to a range of amenities, including pubs, restaurants, and a pay-for car park.
The beach is easily accessible, with a path down to South Beach from the car park, and visitors can walk along a short distance to Castle Beach. The waters at Castle Beach are often calm, making it a popular spot for swimming, paddling, and even some light snorkeling when the tides are right. The beach is also a Blue Flag beach, with RNLI lifeguards on duty during the holidays.
At low tide, visitors can walk out to St Catherine's Island, explore the rocky edges and rock pools, and spot tiny sea creatures like crabs, shrimp, and anemones. The beach also offers stunning views and photo opportunities, particularly during golden hour or with moody skies above the fort.
The beach is best visited during mid to low tide when the sands stretch out and allow access to St Catherine's Island. Visitors are advised to check tide times to avoid being cut off. The beach is a popular spot during the summer months, but spring and early autumn offer quieter visits, great light for photos, and fewer crowds.
Tenby Castle Beach is adjacent to the Pembrokeshire Coast Path.
