Felixstowe is a traditional Edwardian seaside resort located between the Orwell and Deben rivers in Suffolk. The town boasts a 4-mile stretch of beach, which slopes gently into the sea, along with a 2-mile-long promenade. The sea in this area is generally safe for swimming, and the easy access and abundance of facilities make Felixstowe's North beach a popular choice for families.
Visitors to Felixstowe North Beach can enjoy a range of activities, including swimming in the sea or at the seafront pool complex during the winter months. The promenade offers a scenic route for strolling, eating ice creams, or taking tea at a seafront café. The area north of the historic Felixstowe Pier is known as North Beach and is primarily composed of pebble and shingle, with less sand than the South Beach on the other side of the pier. Meanwhile, Felixstowe South Beach offers a traditional seaside experience, with a mainly shingle beach that is sandy at low tide, plenty of space, and traditional beach huts for hire. The South Beach is also dog-friendly, with restrictions in place during the holiday season from May to September.
The historic Felixstowe Pier has undergone significant redevelopment and was expected to reopen to the public in August 2017. The pier's redevelopment is likely to enhance the overall experience for visitors to both North Beach and South Beach.
