Highcliffe Beach is situated on the border of Dorset and Hampshire, and is the most easterly beach in Dorset. The beach is characterised by a series of cove-like sand and shingle beaches, created by a series of breakwaters. The beach is well known for body boarding and swimming, and offers stunning views across Christchurch Bay towards the Isle of Wight.
The shingle beach at Highcliffe has numerous groynes and a moderate slope, flattening to shallow sandy flats that are exposed when the tide retreats. Behind the beach are cliffs and a shoreline promenade, which provides access to the town and to the coast road at the top of the cliff. A large car park, known locally as the Crow's Nest, is located at the top of Highcliffe cliff, offering parking for over 600 cars, including disabled parking. The Cliffhanger Café, with toilet and baby changing facilities, is situated next to the car park and offers great views of the Isle of Wight.
A steep path descends from the car park down onto the beach, but disabled access is facilitated by a surfaced wheelchair route from Waterford Road to Chewton Glen. The beach is cleaned daily during the high season and at regular intervals during the winter. A lifeguard service is also available on the beach from July to September.
Dogs are not allowed on the beach between Groyne H8 and H11 from 1 May to 30 September, but are permitted on the gravel promenade if on a lead. Highcliffe Castle and Highcliffe village are both a short walk away, offering a range of pubs, restaurants, and shops. The Dorset coastal path also runs alongside the coast, providing a few miles of undisturbed paths for walkers to enjoy.
Highcliffe Beach is adjacent to the Bournemouth Coast Path.
