Littlehampton is home to several beaches, including Littlehampton Promenade Beach, Norfolk Road Beach, and Littlehampton East Beach. While they share some similarities, each beach has its own distinct character and attractions.
The beaches in the heart of Littlehampton, such as Littlehampton Promenade Beach and Norfolk Road Beach, are predominantly shingle, but reveal extensive areas of sand at low tide. These beaches are situated in a well-developed seaside resort, with a variety of amenities and activities available. Norfolk Road Beach is particularly notable for its brightly coloured beach huts and its proximity to the harbour town of Littlehampton.
The harbour area of Littlehampton offers a range of attractions, including the Look & Sea Centre, which features a viewing tower and a restaurant serving locally caught seafood. Boat and ferry services operate from the harbour, and visitors can also enjoy walks along the riverside promenade. Nearby, Norfolk Gardens on the promenade offers miniature golf, tennis courts, and a miniature train that runs to Mewsbrook Park. Harbour Park, located at the mouth of the River Arun, provides a variety of seaside amusements, including arcades, a rollercoaster, and a log flume.
Littlehampton East Beach, also known as Littlehampton Coastguards Beach, is a sand and shingle beach that slopes down to the sea. This family-friendly beach has a designated safe swimming area and offers a range of entertainment options, including places to eat, a funfair, and theme park. The award-winning East Beach Café, designed by Thomas Heatherwick, is located on the seafront. The beach is popular with kitesurfers and watersport enthusiasts, who can participate in activities such as canoeing, windsurfing, surfing, sailing, and jet skiing. The beach is dog-friendly from September to April, but dogs are restricted from May 1st to September 30th.
