Tregantle Cliffs Beach is characterised by a long stretch of sand and rocky outcrops. The beach is situated on Ministry of Defence property, which includes a local army base and Tregantle Fort that overlooks the beach. Due to its military use, access to the beach is occasionally prohibited when the firing range is in operation, indicated by red flags signifying 'No Entry'. Despite this, the beach remains popular with families seeking an unspoilt rural beach experience.
The beach is part of the larger Whitsand Bay, which stretches from Rame Head to Portwrinkle. This area is a favourite among walkers of the South West Coast Path, which runs along the cliff tops. The beach is also known for its surfing opportunities, although facilities are limited and access can be challenging. During the summer months, from May to October, RNLI Lifeguards are on duty along the beach due to the presence of dangerous currents.
Visitors to the beach should be aware that the western end of Whitsand Bay beach is occasionally closed due to Tregantle Fort firing range operations, marked by red flags. However, the beach is dog-friendly all year round.
