Weston-super-Mare is an established seaside resort that has been a favourite among holidaymakers for centuries. The town offers all the attractions that one would expect from a traditional seaside resort, including a long stretch of fine, golden beach, a majestic pier, and a promenade.
The long stretch of fine, golden beach between Marine Lake and Uphill Sands makes an ideal summertime destination for anyone looking for a traditional British seaside holiday. The beach is backed by a promenade and offers views of the majestic pier, with its impressive pavilion, and of Weston Bay and beyond. The area of beach around the Grand Pier offers something for everyone, whether that be relaxing in the sunshine, playing in the sand or taking part in the many activities on offer here.
Deck chairs are available for hire and donkey rides can be taken during the summer months. The pier has a wide choice of rides and attractions, including a Go-Kart track and a children’s play area. Grown-ups might enjoy taking tea in the Edwardian-style tea-rooms. A variety of concerts and other events are organised here throughout the year. Visitors can also try out water sports, including kite surfing, jet skiing, windsurfing, and sailing.
The original Grand Pier was completely destroyed by a huge fire in 2008. After a £51 million rebuild, the attractive pier we see today was re-opened in 2010. The pier is open from 10am every day except Christmas Day and offers something for everyone.
Weston-super-Mare Beach is dog friendly during the winter with summer restrictions between Royal Sands and the Grand Pier from 1st May until 30th September.
The tidal range along the Bristol Channel is the second highest in the world. However, this means that when the tide is out, a wide expanse of mudflats are exposed, which are extremely dangerous to walk out onto. Visitors are advised to check tidal tables before visiting.
