Allonby South Beach, located on the Solway coast in Cumbria, is a beautiful and popular destination for beachgoers and water sports enthusiasts.

Allonby has a stunning shingle and sand beach which forms a vast expanse of sand at low tide and offers wonderful views of the estuary. The bathing water is a large sandy beach rising to a shingle slope backed by rough grassland. The beach stretches for around 5 miles in length and is situated in a designated Area of Outstanding Beauty.

From the beach, there are breathtaking views across the Solway Firth towards the hills of Scotland. To the East, the Lakeland fells provide a beautiful backdrop, and on a clear day, it is sometimes possible to see across to the Isle of Man.

The pretty seaside village of Allonby was a centre for herring fishing from the 18th to 19th centuries and became a popular bathing resort in the early 19th century. The village has plenty of places to eat and drink, attractive cobbled streets, and some fine buildings, including the Reading Room designed by Alfred Waterhouse. The Cumbrian Coastal Way runs through the village.

The beach is a popular location for sports including kitesurfing, windsurfing, and kite buggying. The area is great for nature lovers and is part of the Solway ANOB. The beach is dog friendly, and walkers can enjoy the Cumbrian Coastal Way that passes through the village. There are hotels, holiday parks, and caravan parks nearby, all close to or overlooking the beach.

Visitors can stop in the Ship Inn on Main St. for a refreshing pint and a hot meal, or head to Jacks Surf Bar by the seafront carpark. Twentyman's, the famous local ice-cream parlour, is also a great place to visit.

Allonby South Beach is adjacent to the Cumbria Coastal Way and the England Coast Path.
