Avon Beach is situated in Christchurch Bay on the Dorset coast, approximately 13 kilometres wide from Hengitsbury Head to Hurst Castle. The beach is around 700 metres wide and is close to Christchurch town. It is an ideal spot for a family trip to the seaside, offering a safe gentle slope into the sea and sand bars that often appear depending on the tide movements.
The beach offers a range of facilities and amenities, including beach huts, deck chairs, sun loungers, canoes, and wind breaks for hire. A café is open all year round and is popular with both locals and tourists. During July and August, a first aid post can be found at the Beach Office, where there is always someone on call for local information. There is also a pay and display car park at beach level, although it has limited parking spaces.
Avon Beach is a great spot for families with young children, with fine views towards the Solent and the Isle of Wight. The beach has a gently sloping sandy area, although there is some shingle. From July to September, there is a designated bathing area with RNLI lifeguards patrolling, making it a popular spot for paddling and playing water games. A separate part of the shore is dedicated to water sports, including windsurfing and kitesurfing.
Avon Beach is dog friendly during the winter season and allows dogs on the beach between Avon beach car park and Mudeford quay during the summer time.
Avon Beach is adjacent to the Bournemouth Coast Path.
