Mudeford Quay Beach is not generally considered suitable for bathing or watersports due to its proximity to the fast flowing "Run" and the main harbour channel. The site features a small stretch of shingle and is primarily used as a departure point for ferries to Mudeford Sand Bank beaches. However, it does offer spectacular views out to sea and back to Christchurch town. Public toilets are available on the Quay Head, and there is a cluster of historic buildings in the area.
The Quay Head area has a large grassed area behind the quay, which is great for picnicking and playing on. It is also an ideal launching spot for small boats and canoes.
Mudeford Sandbank Beach, also known simply as Mudeford Beach, is a popular sandy beach located just beyond Mudeford Quay. The beach is characterised by a row of colourful beach huts that line the shoreline, which are highly sought after and can fetch high prices for ownership. Many of these huts are available for daily or weekly rental. The beach offers various amenities, including beach cafes and restaurants, such as the Beach House Cafe, parking facilities, toilets, and changing rooms. Visitors can access the beach via a ferry service that operates from Mudeford Quay, transporting them across the narrow entrance to Christchurch Harbour. Mudeford Sandbank beach is dog friendly all year round.
Christchurch Mudeford Quay Beach is adjacent to the Bournemouth Coast Path.
