St Mary's Bay is a sandy beach resort, approximately 450 metres wide, situated just south of Berry Head on the popular 22-mile stretch of coastline known as the English Riviera. This name dates back to Victorian times due to the temperate climate, sub-tropical plants, and scenic waterfronts. The beach is a popular spot for swimming and snorkelling, although there is no lifeguard service.
Access to the beach is not easy, with steps down to the beach from the coastal path. The beach is best reached from the pay and display car park at Sharkham Point, at the end of St Mary’s Road, along a path and some steep steps. This can make disabled access quite difficult. There are no facilities on the beach, but the closest facilities can be found in the centre of Brixham, with its attractive working harbour, shops, pubs, and restaurants.
St Mary's Bay is a good place to look for fossils, situated within the Berry Head to Sharkham SSSI. However, please note it is illegal to collect fossils from the cliff without written consent of Natural England. The beach and surrounding area are also popular for walking and taking in the views from the coastal path.
Dogs are allowed on the beach all year round.
Brixham St Mary's Bay is adjacent to the South West Coast Path.
