Grange-over-Sands is situated on the Cartmel peninsula, overlooking the vast expanse of Morecambe Bay. The town is known for its elegant architecture, dating back to the late 1800s, including its ornate train station with cast iron and glass awnings.
The star attraction of Grange-over-Sands is undoubtedly its promenade, a long, traffic-free stretch that provides a perfect pathway for leisurely strolls or family cycling adventures. The promenade offers breathtaking views across Morecambe Bay, with the vast expanse of saltmarsh stretching out before you. The saltmarsh itself is a fascinating feature of Grange-over-Sands' landscape, created over time through natural transformation. However, it conceals dangerous quicksands, and visitors are advised to stick to the promenade and undertake guided walks across the bay with a qualified guide.
The promenade is a hive of activity and interest, with colorful flower beds in the summer, ice cream stalls and cafes, and strategically placed benches to sit and soak in the serene views. Visitors can also explore the attractive park with a duck pond, and the disused lido, which has been Grade II listed. The town's ornamental gardens, dating back to 1865, are another must-see attraction.
