Newbiggin Beach is situated on the A5087 coastal road between Barrow-in-Furness and Ulverston, in the small village of Newbiggin. The beach is composed mainly of pebbles, with a few rocks and some sandy areas. At low tide, an area of sand and mud is exposed, providing a unique opportunity for exploration.
The beach offers views across Morecambe Bay towards Morecambe itself. However, it is particularly hazardous for bathing due to the quicksands, shifting channels, and rapid-incoming tides of the bay. Visitors are advised to exercise caution when exploring the beach.
There are no dog restrictions at Newbiggin Beach at any time of the year. A nearby campsite provides accommodation options for those wishing to stay in the area.
The beach and surrounding area have been the site of significant events, including the tragic loss of at least 21 undocumented Chinese migrant cockle-pickers in Morecambe Bay in 2004.
Newbiggin Beach is adjacent to the Cumbria Coastal Way.
