Roan Head Beach, located in Cumbria, is a unique and ecologically rich destination that offers a blend of tidal sands, a large nature reserve, and stunning views of the surrounding landscape.
Roan Head Beach is a picturesque sandy expanse situated approximately three miles north of Barrow-in-Furness. The beach is known for its stunning views of the Duddon Estuary and the surrounding landscape, as well as the Lake District hills. A long sandy beach with a large pier built from slag from the old iron works can be found here.
The beach is home to a large nature reserve, which is one of the most botanically rich coastal areas in the UK. The reserve is home to many different animal species, including rare invertebrates and 15% of the UK's natterjack toad population. The big tidal range of Roan Head beach exposes huge sandy flats but also causes strong currents making it unsuitable for swimming.
The beach is backed by its extensive sand dunes and is part of a National Trust conservation area, which helps protect its unique ecological features. From the beach, there are great views of the beautiful Duddon Estuary and the Lake Fells beyond.
Roan Head Beach is adjacent to the Cumbria Coastal Way.
