Lunderston Bay is the closest sandy beach to Glasgow, making it a favourite destination for families, walkers, and picnickers. The beach is situated within the Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park and offers a children's play area, making it an ideal spot for families.
The beach has a large, free car park, a wide grassy area with picnic tables, and a good mix of sand, pebbles, and rocks. Visitors can enjoy a range of activities, including building sandcastles, splashing in the waves, and hunting for sealife in the interesting rock pools. A ranger service leads various educational and family activities, and there are good walks in the area, including a small footpath that leads to Inverkip, the Cloch Point lighthouse, and Gourock.
The beach is a good spot for wildlife spotting, with a variety of birds, occasional seals, and jellyfish. Visitors can also enjoy fine views over the Firth of Clyde towards Dunoon and down towards the Isle of Bute, making it a great place to sit and watch the boats sailing by.
The facilities at the beach are very good, with toilets, plenty of bins, and good disabled facilities. Across the road from the beach is a large garden centre with a coffee shop, providing a convenient place to grab a snack or drink.
Lunderston Bay is adjacent to the Clyde Coastal Path.
