Kilchattan Bay is a large and sheltered sandy bay situated near the tip of the Isle of Bute. The bay boasts a wide, sandy beach with some pebbly areas, offering stunning views of the mouth of the Upper Firth of Forth. On a clear day, visitors can enjoy excellent views of the mountainous Clyde Muirshiel National Park on the mainland and the Island of Great Cumbrae.
The beach at Kilchattan Bay is subject to the tides, with wide sand flats and rock pools exposed at low tide. Conversely, at high tide, the beach is mostly covered. The bay is protected from westerly winds by a steep hill known as Suidhe Chattan, making it a sheltered spot for visitors.
A jetty next to the village of Kilchattan Bay provides an ideal spot for a family picnic, with panoramic views, parking spaces, and toilets. The beach can be easily accessed via a slipway. The village itself offers a range of facilities, including a hotel and restaurant overlooking the bay, as well as a village shop.
