Porthgwidden Beach is a small, sheltered, sandy beach resort approximately 110 metres wide and 1/2km in length, with stone walkways as a backdrop. It is situated between the harbour and Porthmeor beach, in the shelter of 'the Island', which gives the beach a cosy feel and makes it a suntrap. The beach features fine, golden sand and is lined with a row of two-storey 1930s beach huts, a little cafe, and toilets. A large carpark is also located nearby.
The beach is easily accessible from St Ives town centre, just a five-minute walk away, making it ideal for a day by the seaside. The beach offers a range of amenities, including beach huts available for rent, a cafe, and toilets.
The sea at Porthgwidden Beach is generally calmer than at Porthmeor Beach, but extra care should be taken as there is no lifeguard service and powerful waves can occur. However, the sea is considered safe for swimming. Dogs are welcome on the beach when a seasonal dog ban is not in place during the holidays.
Porthgwidden Beach is adjacent to the South West Coast Path.
