Shaldon Beach is located at the mouth of the River Teign estuary on the south coast of Devon. The beach is approximately 1.3 kilometres wide and is a mixture of red sand with some areas of shingle, sloping gently into the calm waters of the estuary.
The beach is backed by impressive sandstone cliffs, offering great views across the river and along the coast beyond Teignmouth. The coastline beyond the beach features a small sandy cove, Ness Cove, which is snuggled into the Ness Headland and can be reached by a smugglers' tunnel and steps to the beach.
Shaldon Beach is a haven for watersport enthusiasts, with popular activities including sailing, swimming, canoeing, and rowing. The beach is also suitable for families, with plenty of amenities close to hand and various beach activities such as shell collecting. When the tide is in, the beach offers a good spot to watch boats coming into the harbour at Teignmouth. A passenger ferry operates from the beach, connecting to Teignmouth and vice versa.
The village of Shaldon hosts various events throughout the year, including a water carnival in early August and Shaldon Regatta, which takes place over 9 days at the end of August. The Regatta features a range of activities, including rowing competitions, beach games, and nautical events.
Shaldon Beach is dog friendly; however, there are restrictions in place between 1st May and 30th September, between the Clipper Quay and the steps to the beach just further south.
Shaldon Beach is adjacent to the South West Coast Path.
